Students will swap classrooms for cannon as they battle for the top spot in a Royal Navy gun competition.

Londoneast Business and Technology Park’s Elutec will send a team a Dagenham technology students from its Rainham Road South base to compete in the Junior Leaders Field Gun competition at HMS Collingwood in Hampshire.

Eluctec’s vice principal Rob Bristow said he hoped to build on the team’s debut performance in last year’s competition, adding his team will be playing to win the gun-assembling charity competition, which begins on Monday, July 3, ending on Friday, July 7.

“We are delighted to have been selected to take part again this time and support the Royal Navy and Royal Marines charity field gun event,” he said. “Team Elutec will be training to win. Sheer hard work and determination will prepare the team over the four days for the final.”

His team, which has been training at West Ham United’s Beckton training ground in Albatross Close, will be competing against 18 others.
