Britain’s Got Talent sensation Molly Rainford is set to sing at an Olympic festival this Saturday.

The Barking schoolgirl is to perform a rendition of Ave Maria as part of the Countdown Fun Day on Abbey Green in The Broadway.

The Olympic Games celebration will also feature tribute acts the Counterfeit Kylie and Maybe Gaga, dance and extreme sports including high ropes.

Olympic mascots Wenlock and Mandeville will take part in a Zumba masterclass and cover band the Jacob Project will play party tunes from the Sixties to the present day.

Sports fans are also invited to join an extreme sports competition on the green, the Countdown Team Challenge, on Friday from 6pm. Winning teams will receive trophies.

Residents will also be able to cheer athletes taking part in a Dagenham triathlon on Sunday.

The event will feature a 400m swim at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre in Wood Lane, cycling for 20km around the town and then a 5km run in Central Park in Wood Lane.

The festivities will draw to a close on Wednesday with a competition for older sports fans, the Countdown 50+ Sports Challenge at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre, including swimming, bowls, badminton and gym fitness.

The free Countdown Fun Day takes place from 11am to 7pm and Molly is to go on stage at 3pm. For more information, log on to lbbd.gov.uk/2012
