It’s summer holiday time and the borough has lots of fun on offer to keep youngsters busy.

A host of free and affordable activities will take place during the six-week break at various locations throughout Barking and Dagenham.

The council is running its annual Summer’s Sorted programme in partnership with a variety of local organisations. One, Broadway Theatre in Barking, is holding drama, dance and BMX workshops.

The first is a drama club between July 29 and August 2. Participants will be able to improve their skills in improvisation, puppetry, masks and physical theatre.

Between August 5 and 10, the theatre is hosting Roadworks, a three-day BMX workshop followed by two days of street dance.

A course dedicated to street dancing, run by professional dancers, is at the Broadway between August 12 and 16. Call 020 8507 5607 for more information.

The Vibe Youth Centre in Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, is hosting all kinds of activities for 11 to 19-year-olds on weekdays between July 29 and August 30.

Sessions will include art, sport, graphic design, T-shirt printing, radio presenting, rap and nail art. There will also be outings to Thorpe Park, the London Dungeon, the London Aquarium and Roller World. Call 020 8227 3291.

Barking’s new housing development, Academy Central in Longbridge Road, Barking, is also organising events for children, both on site and in Mayesbrook Park and the Vibe Youth Centre.

There will be storytelling and song sessions, sports and games days, messy play events, and drama groups on various dates in August. Call Anna Allan on 0844 406 900, extension 7040.

Valence House in Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, has a number of events for families including boat building on July 30, parlour games on August 1 and a summer disco on August 4.

The borough’s parks have lots in store too. Barking Park will run an art session for families on July 30, a dinosaur dig on July 31, pond dipping on August 3, a bicycle ride on August 3, mud pie messy play on August 7 and a treasure hunt on August 14. Call 020 8227 2332 for more details.
