Dagenham rapper Guvna B has been named best gospel act at the prestigious MOBO (Music of Black Origin) awards.
Guvna B, whose real name is Isaac Borquaye, rubbed shoulders with leading artists Tinie Tempah, N-Dubz, Professor Green, Plan B and Dizzee Rascal at the event last week.
Isaac, 21, of Bennett Road, Dagenham, said in his acceptance speech: “Four years ago, I was at a crossroads in my life – whether to do right or wrong.
“I came across the Gospel and Gospel music and now – here I am – four years down the line and I have a MOBO award.”
Guvna B’s take on Gospel music mixes in other styles such as rap, hip hop and R&B.
Independent label Black Grape signed him and released his first album, The Narrow Road, in 2008. Just one year later he won the Urban Music Award for Best Gospel.
