MONSTERS VS ALIENS (PG)

WHEN a meteorite from outer space hits young Californian bride-to-be Susan Murphy she is horrified when the radiation turns her into a giant monster.

Susan (voiced by Reece Witherspoon) is taken to a secret government compound where she meets a ragtag group of monsters who have also been rounded up over the years.

But when Earth comes under attack from evil aliens this bunch of misfits might just be humanity's only hope.

When the alien overlord demands control of the planet General W.R. Monger calls the monsters into action after a desperate plea from the US President.

But while the battle for Earth is going on Susan must also wage a personal battle to convince her family, friends and self-centred fiancé that an out-sized woman has a place in their world.

Using futuristic technology Dreamworks films have created a 3-D animated adventure for the whole family.

This feel good comedy also features the voice talents of stars such as; Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, and Seth Rogen.

THE BOAT THAT ROCKED

RICHARD Curtis is best known for directing his particular brand of modern love story - Love Actually and Notting Hill.

But in The Boat That Rocked he turns his attention to the world of music.

In this comedy set in 1966 we enter a world where rock music is only played on the BBC for two hours a night.

Pirate stations spring up everywhere in order to broadcast the music people love to the pop-starved masses.

In particular the story is based on Radio Caroline and follows the friendship and camaraderie of the DJs and radio staff on the ship.

A young teenager joins their motley crew and soon gets mixed up in a world of drin, drugs and women.

However there is a more serious storyline here - the government are plotting to bring down pirate radio stations.

This feel good fare features a truly all star cast including Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Kenneth Branagh, Nick Frost, Gemma Arterton and Emma Thompson.

DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION

BASED on the popular Japanese manga created by Akira Toriyama, whose work led to best selling graphic novels, video games and a television series.

The film centres on a team of warriors, each of whom possesses special abilities. Together, they protect Earth from evil beings bent on dominating the Universe and controlling the mystical objects called Dragonballs.

The story begins with a young lad named Goku, who sets out to find the great Master Roshi.

It was his adoptive grandfather Grandpa Gohan's dying request that he meet with Roshi and fulfil his destiny.

They must gather all seven Dragon Balls together, of which Roshi has one, in order to prevent the evil Lord Piccolo from succeeding in his desire to use the Dragon Balls to take over the world.

Goku's quest is to obtain the mystical Dragonballs before Piccolo does.
