The price you pay to see Billy Bragg at Barking Folk Festival could be nothing – if you live in the borough.

Folk fans will be smiling sweetly as free priority tickets are made available on June 5.

Readers will have one week to pick up a maximum of four tickets per household from the box office at Barking Learning Centre and Dagenham Library.

The Saturday boy said he is “excited” to bring his socialist sounds to Barking Abbey Ruins on July 5 as part of the borough’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

“I get to play in festivals all over the world,” he said. “But to have the chance to perform at a festival in my home town is really special.”

Cllr Rodwell said that he was anticipating a strong demand for the tickets.

“It’s a real coup to have Billy come home and headline what will be one of London’s biggest folk festivals,” he said.“I am expecting a great leap forward in the number of our residents who will apply for tickets.”
