The council is searching for Ford workers involved in the strike of 1968 strike to invite them to an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the walkout.

An event at the former Dagenham Civic Centre, now a CU London campus, is planned for June 7 to “celebrate those who have done so much to advance women’s rights” on the anniversary.

Cllr Lynda Rice, cabinet member for equalities and diversity, said: “We are asking residents to spread the word about this event, so we can get as many people as possible that are connected to the Dagenham Ford machinists’ strike of 1968 to attend.

“Whether you were one of the strikers, worked at the Ford plant at the time, or are a relative with stories to tell, we want to hear from you.

“2018 is the centenary of women’s suffrage and this occasion promises to be an informative afternoon, talking about an important event in the continued quest for gender equality.”
