ONE of the borough's most historic and iconic buildings will receive nearly £2million from the Lottery fund for its refurbishment.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has confirmed that Valence House will benefit from an £1.84million grant which will be added to the £6million already promised to it by Barking and Dagenham Council.

The money means that the 600-year-old building in Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, will receive, among many other things, a refurbished museum, a new set of exhibitions and a new visitor's centre.

Refurbishment work is currently underway.
