O’Neil confident Hammers can push up to mid-table

West Ham face Premier League leaders Manchester United and champions Chelseas in April, but Gary O’Neil is confident the Hammers can continue to pick up points.

The hard-working midfielder joined the club from Middlesbrough in the January transfer window with the Hammers propping up the top flight.

However the Hammers have lost only once from six matches league matches O’Neil has been a part of and he sees no reason why that impressive run cannot continue.

“Everyone has spoken about how difficult the games are that we’ve got coming up, but I think it is important that we keep our tally ticking over,” he said.

“We’ve had a good spell since Blackpool really and it is important that we just keep that going.

“We can easily pull away you know? You start looking up and the teams in 11th and 12th don’t look too far away. So it is important that no matter how tough the games are, we try and get something out of them.”

West Ham face United a week on Saturday with an international break scheduled this weekend and O’Neil is determined to use the break away from action wisely.

“I think the most important thing is recovering and making sure you get right. The lads have had a tough spell of games, so we will do a couple of days of recovery probably and then it is back to work really,” he said.

“Every day, trying to improve, trying to understand what the gaffer wants. I’m playing wide of a five which I haven’t done very often, so I am still trying to get to grips with that a little bit, and then just getting ready for the next game because they are all big games now.
