There are two key issues I have been campaigning on in parliament that particularly impact our borough, the Windrush scandal and the upcoming budget.

Last month I made clear that the government's extension to the compensation scheme for Windrush victims was woefully inadequate and riddled with flaws.

For far too long the Windrush generation has been let down by this Conservative government.

We saw the devastating impact of this failure right here in Barking and Dagenham with the appalling death of a local resident, Sarah O'Connor.

Neither the prime minister nor the home secretary have said anything since the launch of this extension that makes me think they will change course.

I'm determined to continue speaking out in parliament against this outrageous injustice.

This March the government will be putting forward its annual budget, and the prime minister has promised that it will include extra investment for the Midlands and the North (where the Tories won many new seats at the last general election).

However, the prime minister has said nothing about delivering the extra investment East London desperately needs.

The prime minister is turning the budget into a shady bag of tricks. Giving investment to one part of the country for selfish political purposes, yet failing to deliver the extra money that we have needed for a decade now. Any extra investment in the budget needs to be distributed fairly across the country going forwards.

I will be demanding the extra funding and resources we need right here in Barking and Dagenham for our overstretched local services.
