Last week, we found out the awful news that the chemotherapy unit at King George Hospital is set to close in November, due to staffing issues.

This means cancer patients will be pushed into the already overcrowded and over-stretched cancer unit at Queen’s Hospital.

Going through cancer treatment is both physically and emotionally draining.

To add longer travel times to get treatment will make things even harder for vulnerable patients.

It is deeply worrying that the NHS staffing crisis has got so bad that Barking, Havering and Redbridge Trust (BHRUT) says it cannot safely operate the chemotherapy unit open at King George Hospital.

It is appalling that a short term loss of staffing should lead to a vital long term facility being killed off.

My priority is and always will be to ensure that my constituents get the first-rate health service they deserve, and these plans do not do that.

I will be doing everything I can to reverse this decision.

I will also be coming together with neighbouring MPs to call on the health secretary to urgently address the NHS staffing crisis.
