Barking’s Al Madina Mosque is in the running to win ‘Serves community tennis project of the year’ at the British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards.
The mosque, which won the prize last year, will go up against Slough’s SWAT Youth Club and Bradford’s Sunnah Sports Academy at the ceremony at Gosvenor House in Mayfair.
More than 20 young people have taken part in the mosque’s tennis sessions, which are held three times a week on roll out courts.
Ash Siddique, Al Madina centre secretary, said: “We know the competition is strong again this year but we are very proud of our achievement and we encourage everyone to vote for us.”
Al Madina Mosque is part of the Tennis Foundation’s SERVES project and works to open up tennis to young people from black, asian and minority ethnic communities.
Online voting is open till March 15 at bedsa.co.uk/vote.
