A man has been fined and ordered to pay costs of £290 for throwing a cigarette butt out of his car window.
Carl Stevens, of Ibscott Close, Dagenham, was caught by an enforcement officer in January and was brought before Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on July 22.
After failing to pay a fine of £75 the matter was taken to court resulting in a criminal conviction.
Cllr Laila Butt, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety, said: “If you want to throw litter from your vehicle we have ways to identify you and we will prosecute you.
“If you do the grime – you pay the fine.”
Stevens was fined £135 and ordered to pay costs of £135 plus £20 surcharge.
