There’s just over a week to go until the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visit Barking and Dagenham.

Her Majesty’s visit next Thursday, which has been organised to celebrate the borough’s 50th anniversary, will begin with the official opening of Chadwell Heath Community Centre in High Road, with entertainment from the Dagenham Girl Pipers.

The royal couple will then head to Sydney Russell School in Parsloes Avenue, Dagenham, to sit in on French and German classes, watch a cycle polo match and open a new building.

Her Majesty will also officially open the Abbey Leisure Centre in Bobby Moore Way, Barking, and enjoy a celebration lunch at Barking’s Broadway theatre,

Spectators will be able to welcome the royal couple outside Chadwell Heath Community Centre from 10am, Sydney Russell School from 10.45am and Abbey Green from 11.30am.

Leader of the council, Cllr Darren Rodwell said the visit was an honour and called on residents to line the streets to ensure a “really warm east London welcome”.

There will be a limited number of accessible viewing places available at Abbey Green for people with disability or mobility needs. These must be booked in advanced by calling 020 8227 5784.
