More than 200 residents gathered to launch a community group campaigning to improve Parsloes Park in Dagenham.

The ‘Friends of Parsloes Park’ handed out Easter snack boxes and organised an egg hunt, face painting and free cream tea.

Funded by the Fair Share Trust Barking and Dagenham, the launch recruited nearly 40 people to join the group and volunteer.

Sports and craft activities have been planned in the park during the summer and Friends of Parsloes Park hope to work with the council to get a cafe on site.

Founding member Margaret McLoughlin said: “We are delighted that so many people came out to support the initiative. We want to get more people involved with the park and for it to become a hive of activity. Parsloes Park is our biggest and best resource in the area but it is under-used.”
