ORIENT entertain Walsall on Saturday desperate to end a run of seven games without a win, writes Trevor Davies.

Following successive defeats at the hands of MK Dons and Oldham, the O's are now looking anxiously over their shoulders and know they need a win to avoid getting sucked back into the relegation dogfight.

After going so well at the start of the year, O's boss Geraint Williams believes that confidence holds the key.

"At the moment results aren't going our way and it seems to have hit our confidence on the ball. We're a little bit hurried and what we need to do is relax again," he said.

"Confidence took a lot of time to build up in the period after the New Year and now we have got to get back to that.

"Results breed confidence and we have got knocked back a bit, but we've got to stick together.

"We've got a home game on Saturday and we've got to get the ball down and play as we have done at home."

And Williams believes that Orient's home form will get them out of trouble, especially with successive games against Walsall and Huddersfield coming up at Brisbane Road.

"We're five unbeaten at home and we've got to make it six by getting the three points on Saturday," he said.

But to get back to winning ways the O's need to rediscover their scoring touch, especially as they have failed to find the back of the net in the last three games.

Williams admits it's a problem and explained: "Going three games without a goal is a major concern.

"Earlier in the season we were conceding two or three goals a game.

"We seem to have got on top of that, apart from Tuesday night, but we're not looking like we're creating at the moment."

Williams admits it's hard to put a finger on why the goals have dried up.

"It's a bit strange, because it's the same people out there, apart from Nicky Adams.

"He made a bit of a difference for us going forward, but we've got enough out there to be creating more."

Certainly, Adams has been a big miss since his one-month loan spell came to an end and he was recalled by Leicester City.

The 23-year-old made his loan debut for the O's against Yeovil in a 2-0 win and also played a big part in the against-the-odds success at Charlton Athletic and the 5-0 demolition of Bristol Rovers.

He was never on the losing side during his six game spell as the O's also drew with Carlisle, Brighton and Leeds and picked up 12 points during his all-to-brief spell with the club.

Now, Williams is desperate to pass the 40-point mark as soon as possible and Saturday's game against Walsall gives him the chance to do just that.

"We want to get to 40 points as soon as we can and then move on to 50," he said.

Providing their home form holds up, O's should have enough in their tank to steer clear of the relegation battle.

The bottom two - Stockport County and Wycombe - still have to come to Brisbane Road, as do Hartlepool.

While O's also go to struggling Exeter City next month.

They are keys games for Williams' side and providing the confidence returns, O's should hit 50 points, which is likely to be enough for survival.
