PLASHET PARK registered their first win of the season amongst a thunderstorm on Saturday against Poplar.
The Newham club were declared 54-43 winners, after the heavens opened and play was abandoned with three ends remaining.
Plashet's first rink, skipped by Alan Hogwood, containing John Pain, Ken Carter and Jim Brady got off to a good start with an 18-14 win.
The second rink, skipped by Mike Mullinder, with George Gale, Ernie Bloe and Frank Adams were beaten 23-11, but John Cooper's final rink with Reg Evett, Eric Rooney and Harry Morley, were victorious 25-16.
Although that made the score 54-53 to Plashet, Poplar were fined 25 per cent of their score on rinks two and three for fielding understrength teams, and eventually lost 54-43.
Celebrations were short-lived as Phoenix enjoyed an 18-shot victory on Sunday.
Alan Hogwood's rink of George Gale, Ken Carter and Frank Adams provided a glimmer of hope by winning 22-17, but the visitors were always in control against Mick Mullinder's rink of Lee Friar, John Pain and Ted King.
They ended up losing 31-10 and with John Cooper's rink of Alf Goring, George Davies and Cliff Dye going down 19-17, Phoenix completed the double over Plashet this season.
