DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE midfielder Solomon Taiwo cut a disconsolate figure on the sidelines after his side went down 2-0 to Morecambe at the weekend, writes MIKE SIMMONDS.

Although it was the former Sutton United player's 50th appearance for the club, and his first start in five games, he wasn't in the mood for celebrating.

"I'm down, I'm happy that I've played a game, that's the one positive, but it's all about winning," he said.

"Hopefully we can dig deep in training and get back to what we were doing earlier in the season."

It was a view echoed by his manager John Still, who wasn't pleased with his team's first half showing.

"In the first half we were poor, it was a follow on from the 3-0 defeat to Lincoln where we were also poor," he said.

"The second half was decent though, we pulled it out a bit, and their keeper kept them in it.

"Goals change games though and we shouldn't be giving those opportunities away."

Unsurprisingly, Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy was delighted to pick up a rare win at Victoria Road.

"I never usually get anything here, not even a good cup of team!" he laughed.

"We won the game in the first half, and showed in the second half the resilience that was needed.

"Their keeper made a couple of good saves, but so did their keeper in the second half. It's a fantastic result and the lads have worked their socks off."
