Midfielder Danny Green has completed his move to Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed sum.

The fee for Green is believed to be six figures and a record amount Daggers have received for a player – passing the previous record set last summer when Paul Benson also moved the Valley.

Green, who spent two season’s at Victoria Road, said: “I owe a lot to John Still and his coaches Terry Harris and Wayne Burnett. He’s a great manager.

“I owe a lot to them and I’m sure they’ll bring in more players like myself and the ‘Benno’s’ and keep progressing.”

Daggers had given permission for Green to speak to the Addicks after successfully negotiating a fee with the South London club last week, but with the 22-year-old away on holiday the move was delayed.

He returned from his break in Las Vegas on Tuesday and passed a medical and agreed terms on a three-year deal today.

After Peterborough United and Sheffield Wednesday had bids rejected, Charlton became the front runners for Green’s signature and he becomes manager Chris Powell’s eighth signing of a busy summer so far.

Green, who began his career with Charlton as a trainee, moved to Victoria Road two season’s ago from Bishop’s Stortford.

The winger took no time at all to adjust to League football, reaching double figures for his goals and assists as Daggers earned promotion via the play-offs in Green’s excellent debut year – capped by bagging the second goal in the 3-2 play-off final triumph over Rotherham at Wembley.

Green was top-scorer for the club last season, but missed the final day defeat at Peterborough that confirmed their relegation after receiving a red card in the penultimate match – a 3-0 win over Carlisle, in which Green netted.

Daggers boss John Still had previously reiterated the club’s policy of not wishing to stand in the way of a player moving to another club, providing it is in the best interests of all involved.

And a statement on the Daggers official website read: “The Club would like to place on record their thanks for the service he gave to this Club and wishes him every success in the future.”
