DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE boss John Still said his side were punished for making rudimentary mistakes in their loss at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Winger Danny Green bore the brunt of his frustrations for carelessly giving away the ball in the build-up to the second goal, after being encouraged by his side’s early doggedness.

“To be honest I thought we started alright,” he said.

“I thought we contained them. We know they’re good going forward and they’re good at home, but I was really pleased after about 20 minutes.

“They changed their shape, they couldn’t break us down and I thought we were okay. I was really pleased.

“Even after the first goal, I thought, at 1-0 at half-time, we could have a little go at that.

“But we gave away a terrible goal. Danny Green made an unbelievable error in conceding the ball and from 2-0 it was very difficult. They were worthy winners, there’s no doubt about that.”

Still also criticised less noticeable errors, including a throw-in from Damien McCrory, which caught keeper Tony Roberts unaware, and did not believe his tactical approach was a factor in the loss.

“They play 4-1-4-1,” he said. “They play how they play and we play how we play. I never really worry about what other teams do. Orient played 4-1-4-1 last week and we won the game.

“They played well today, but I think we have contributed to our own downfall, I really do.

“They’ve been really at their game and we weren’t at our game, but we still made too many errors.

“They may seem like small errors, but they’re important errors and it showed itself when we threw the ball back to our goalkeeper.

“I’ve been at this club six years and I’ve never thrown a ball back to a goalkeeper, ever. You never throw it back.

“We just went through that period of making errors which we don’t normally make, but I look and the game at they were worthy winners.”
