A brave young barmaid is preparing to take on the Brentwood Half Marathon on March 18 to raise money for Saint Francis Hospice.
Sharise Cook, 27, works at The Rabbits pub in Stapleford Abbotts, and had never even owned a pair of trainers before becoming interested in the event.
She said: “I can’t even run down the road and I never thought I would ever be able to run a half marathon, but I spoke with a runner who has completed lots of marathons, and she encouraged me and made me realise I could do it.”
When Sharise discovered that the organisers of the marathon supported the hospice she decided that she would like to help.
“It has helped the family and friends of many of our regulars, who I know will support me every step of the way,” she said.
Sharise aims to complete the half marathon in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
