Barking's Christmas tree lights will be switched on at the end of a festive day of events in the town next month.

Carol singing, wreath making, dance performances, magic shows and bingo will be among the activities on offer around Barking Town Square, Barking Learning Centre and Barking Market on Saturday, December 3.

Barking and Dagenham Council said there will be a Santa's grotto where children can get a free present, with a quiet hour for youngsters with additional needs.

The events start at 11am and end with the lights switch-on at 4.50pm.

Council leader Darren Rodwell said: “It’s been another difficult year for many people because of the cost-of-living crisis, so we’re absolutely delighted to be able to offer some more fantastic, free, family fun that will put smiles on people’s faces and create long-lasting memories."
