A permanent sculpture by artist Grayson Perry is being unveiled in Barking today (Wednesday, November 30).
The work, Inspiration Lives Here, sits in the central courtyard of A House For Artists in Linton Road.

Free for the public to see, the commission is a two-metre wide lamp sculpted in the shape of a row of houses.

The sculpture is inspired by the Becontree Estate in Dagenham, the UK's largest housing estate.
Grayson's lamp also features a Ford car and transit van, a nod to the history of car producing in Dagenham and because Grayson's father's first car was a Ford Anglia.

The sculpture is hand-painted and made of Corten steel, which is designed to weather over time.

The work was commissioned by Create London and funded by Art Fund.
It has been realised in collaboration with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the Barking Enterprise Centre (BEC).
