If I could recommend one restaurant for you to treat yourself at this Christmas, or as you head into 2023, it’d be Figo in Stratford.
After Christmas shopping in Westfield, I was ready for some really good food for dinner – and that’s exactly what I got.
The outside of the restaurant lured me in, with gorgeously festive lights and blazing fires adding to both the aesthetic and the warmth.
Inside was dark, atmospheric, modern and felt up-market.
The restaurant was big inside, hosting a number of tables and making it feel really atmospheric and fun.
It was lit inside with large trees covered in fairy lights, which definitely gave the interior the WOW factor.
It was Instagram-able, tasteful, and cozy.
My friend and I were seated and were tended to quickly by a really friendly waitress who took our drinks order.
He chose the Hendricks gin, and I had a sour cherry gin with lemonade.
A large gin and lemonade, Christmas music setting the ambience in the background, and a burrata with cherry tomatoes on the way – ideal.
We both had the burrata to start, along with a bread basket, and it was divine.
The cheese was melt-in-the-mouth, the tomatoes suitably cherry and a mixture of bread to partner them with.
For main course I had pasta with a tomato sauce, and my friend had a veal Milanese.
They came quickly, they were piping hot, and the portion sizes weren’t too big or too small.
Undeniably full, and definitely not needing a dessert, we went on to persuade each other that it would be rude not to order a dessert, each, and share them both, because after all it is Christmas.
(We’d definitely have found an excuse to do the same even if it wasn’t Christmas).
Once we’d seen the menu, any ideas we’d had about not having a dessert had to be forgotten as there were far too many hard-to-resist options.
We decided to go for the salted caramel panna cotta and the chocolate fondant, and neither disappointed.
In fact, we demolished the lot and genuinely struggled to move when leaving. In a good way.
The food at Figo was absolutely divine, it was genuinely Italian, modern, in a fun atmosphere, and I’d go back again, and again.
Next time I want to try the brunch, and have a taste of Italy in the day rather than at night.
