Students on a field trip to a “pudding club” event managed to catch top chef Michael Kwan on camera in the kitchen at a Dagenham care home.

The students studying photography at Barking and Dagenham College looked in to see the master chef from the Dorchester Hotel in action at the Park View care home.

They couldn’t resist sampling the cakes he made, of course. But there was a serious side to the visit.

“Meeting Michael Kwan made great additions to their photography portfolios,” college tutor David Bennett said.

“It also helped develop their self-confidence and communication skills. My students worked professionally in a busy and sensitive environment.”

The ‘pudding club’ is a monthly event at the home in Morland Road, helping its residents remember puddings they once made for their children or what they had when they were children themselves.

The college has a long-standing relationship with the home and often works on projects with residents. These include giving photography lessons and taking residents’ portraits with their families at Christmas.
