A man has been charged with dangerous driving after a fatal collision in which a pedestrian was killed.

Wahab Zahid, 19, of St Mark's Place in Dagenham, was arrested on Thursday (July 13) and charged yesterday (July 14) with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

Zahid will appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court today (July 15).

Police were called at 2.41am on July 9 following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Clapham High Street in south London.

Officers attended alongside the London Fire Brigade and medics from the London Ambulance Service.

Despite the effort of emergency services, a man, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene, police said.
