A heavily pregnant woman has been stuck in traffic for over an hour after a diesel spill on a major road created travel chaos.

Iqbal Siraj said today (October 13) that his wife Julia and their family are stuck on the Barking A406 with a small child.

Heavy congestion after a diesel spill on the A13 Alfred's Way has caused travel chaos for scores of motorists, including Iqbal's family on the A406.

Although she is not expecting for some months, Iqbal says sitting cooped up in the car for so long is making Julia uncomfortable.

The worried husband said: "My wife has been stuck... for over one hour and with the little one."

"Police say it could be hours before it reopens," he added. "Cars are stationary and I am not sure why police are not doing traffic control at the Beckton roundabout."

Large parts of the A13, which also goes through Rainham, have been affected at Ripple Road, Dagenham, going towards Dartford Tunnel.

Road closures have been put in place and the Metropolitan Police have advised people to avoid the area.
