Remembrance Day commemorations are being organised across east London and we've compiled a list of those you can attend.

On November 11 and 12, events, services and parades are being organised to allow people to attend and pay their respects. 

Read on to find out more on what is happening in your borough:

Redbridge 

Redbridge will hold a number of Remembrance parades and services where you can pay your respects. 

Saturday, November 11:

  • Woodford War Memorial - High Road, South Woodford

Visitors are asked to congregate at St Mary's Church Hall at 8.40am. The service in 'Dedication of the Field of Remembrance' will start at 9am.

  • Fairlop Waters Country Park - Forest Road, Barkingside. The Remembrance service will begin promptly at 10.45am. Visitors are asked to arrive by 10.30am.

  • Snaresbrook Remembrance Service - Snaresbrook Memorial Garden. Visitors are asked to arrive by 10.45am.

Sunday, November 12:

  • Ilford War Memorial - Eastern Avenue, Newbury Park.

Visitors must arrive by 10.35am in order to be allowed in for the service. Gates will be closed to the public at 10.40am, with the service starting at 10.50am. 

Those who arrive later than 10.40am will only be permitted access to the public area.

  • Hainault War Memorial - Manford Way.

The service will start at 10.45am.

  • Wanstead War Memorial - High Street, Wanstead. 

The service will start at 12.30pm. Visitors are asked to arrive by 12.15pm.

 

Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets' Remembrance events will all take place on Sunday, November 12. 

Sunday, November 12:

  • Remembrance Sunday at The Garden of Remembrance, Tower Hill

10:30am to 11.30am at the Merchant Navy Memorial, Trinity Square Gardens, Tower Hill London, EC3N 4DH. 

  • Remembrance Sunday at St Anne's, Limehouse

10:30am to 11.45am at St Anne's Church, Three Colt Street, E14 7HA. During the service,  a short act of remembrance will take place outside at the war memorial.

  • Christ Church, Isle of Dogs

10.30am to 12pm at 151 Manchester Rd, Island Gardens, London, E14 3DR. The service will begin at 10.45am outside Christ Church where an act of service and wreath laying will take place. 

The service will then continue in the church where a Book of Remembrance is kept for the civilian casualties of the area in the Second World War. 

  • Remembrance Sunday at St. George in the East

10:30am to 12pm at St. George in the East Church, 14 Cannon St Rd, London, E1 0BH. The mass service will start at 10.30am and there will be an Act of Remembrance at the war memorial in St George's Gardens at 11am.

  • Remembrance Day at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

10.30am to 12.30pm at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, Southern Grove, E3 4PX.

A ceremony will be held in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park at the War Memorial. Visitors should arrive at 10.15am ahead of the 10.30am start. 

A free event where refreshments are available after the service. The ceremony will be inclusive and non-religious, led by a Humanist Celebrant.

  • Remembrance Sunday at St Luke's, Millwall

10.45am to 12pm at St Luke's Church, Alpha Grove, E14 8LH.

 

Barking & Dagenham

Remembrance Day events in Barking and Dagenham will last from Friday, November 10 through to Sunday, November 12. 

Friday, November 10:

  • Cross Keys War Memorial, Dagenham. The memorial service starts at 10.45am, and will be held by the Dagenham branch of the Royal Naval Association with local schoolchildren.

  • Job Drain Memorial, outside the Broadway Theatre in Barking. The small annual service starts at 10.45am. A wreath laying will take place after the service.

Saturday, November 11:

  • Church Elm Lane War Memorial, corner of Heathway. The Dagenham branch of the Royal Naval Association will be laying wreaths at 10.30am. 

Sunday, November 12: 

  • War Memorial, Barking Park. Wreaths will be laid at 10am. Attendees are asked to arrive by 9.45am.

  • Barking and Dagenham Council Remembrance parade. The parade will leave Barking Park at 10.20am, going through Barking town centre to arrive at St. Margaret’s Church for a service at 10.50am.

 A two-minute silence will be held at 11am.

Guests who do not want to participate in the parade from Barking Park are requested to join at the church at 10.45am.

  • Remembrance Service at St. Margaret’s Church, 10.50am.

Refreshments will be served in the hall at 11.40am at St Margaret's Church after the service.

  • Dagenham Parish Church Remembrance Service. The event will be held at Parish Church on Church Lane at 10.50am. A two-minute silence will be held at the church at 11am. 

  • Becontree Royal Legion parade. A small parade will be held at 3pm after it assembles at 2.15pm at Grafton School.

The parade will leave from Grafton School at 2.40pm and will make its way from the school to the Royal British Legion Chadwell Heath, 541 Becontree Avenue, Dagenham. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

 

Waltham Forest

Events in Waltham Forest will be taking place on Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12.

Saturday, November 11:

  • 10.25am - Highams Park Service of Remembrance. The Highams Park Society will hold its annual remembrance ceremony at the Halex Memorial in Hale End, and Highams Park Library, Castle Avenue. E4 9QD

  • The Leytonstone branch of the Royal British Legion will hold a two minutes' silence at 11am, Gainsborough Rd, Bushwood, London E11 1HT. 

 

Sunday, November 12: 

 

  • Chingford Fire Station, 34 The Ridgeway, Chingford, E4 6PP.

10am to 11am - Attendees should assemble at the front of Chingford Fire Station at 10am. The parade will leave at 10.35am and will march to the War Memorial at the junction of King's Head Hill. There will be a short service, two minutes' silence and wreath laying. A church service will follow in the Church of St Peter and Paul.

  • Coronation Gardens, 13 Buckingham Road, London E10 5NG

A parade will gather by St Mary’s Church, Leyton. They will march at 10.25am. It will lead attendees into Coronation Gardens for a service and laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.

Weather dependent, the service will be followed by a march past and salute.

  • Harrow Green War Memorial, Harrow Green, London E11 3HP

9:30am to 10:40am - Parade will assemble at 9.30am in the B&M car park on Howard Road E11 3PL. It will leave at 10am before arriving for the service at the Harrow Green Memorial on the High Road at approximately 10.40am.

Following the service The Social Club (formerly Ex-Servicemen’s Club), Harvey Road will be providing a buffet with live entertainment. During the evening it will be having a visit from members of the Czech Republic Army.

 

  • Fellowship Square, Waltham Forest Town Hall, Forest Road, London E17 4JF

10am to 11.30am - The Civic Remembrance Day parade and service at the War Memorial, Town Hall campus on Sunday 12 November 2023. 

Walthamstow Royal British Legion will march from the William Morris Gallery, Lloyd Park, to the Town Hall, 10.25am.

Those who wish to join are to assemble at the William Morris Gallery no later than 10am. The service will begin at 10.55am at the Walthamstow War Memorial.

 

Newham

Newham's events will begin on Friday, November 10 and carry on over the weekend. 

Friday, November 10: 

  • Service at East Ham Cenotaph in Central Park, E6

The service commences at 10.55am, guests are asked to assemble for 10.45am. The event is aimed at young people, with children from several Newham schools partaking.

At the end of the service local historian Lee J Skeggs will give a talk to school children and young people.

 

Sunday, November 12: 

  • Service at East Ham Cenotaph in Central Park, E6

The service commences at 10.55am, guests are asked to assemble for 10.45am. This is the main Remembrance Sunday service taking place in Newham.

Members of the Royal British Legion will parade from Newham Town Hall, High Street South to Central Park. The parade will depart at 10.30am and arrive at the Cenotaph in Central Park. 

 The service will be led by The Reverend Canon Fred Ashford-Okai, and is attended by LBN Councillors, the King’s Representative, past and present members of the armed forces, uniformed services, St. John’s Ambulance, and young people representing various Scouting, Guiding and Cadet organisations.

As part of the service there is a two-minute silence which is followed by the laying of wreaths.

  • Service at All Saints West Ham Parish Church, Church Street, West Ham, E15 3HU

The service will start at 10am, and guests are asked to be seated for 9.30am. 

  • Service at St Luke’s War Memorial, 89 Tarling Road, Canning Town, E16 1HN

The service will start at 10.45am, guests are asked to assemble for 10:30am.

  • Service at St. Mark’s Memorial, Factory Road, North Woolwich, E16 2DA

The service will commence at 10.45am. Attendees are asked to gather at The Brick Lane Music Hall by 10.30am.
