A woman is fighting for her life after a crash on a main road in Barking. 

The 40-year-old woman has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after she was involved in the incident on the A406 in Barking. 

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were dispatched to the scene of the crash earlier today (February 15) as several road closures remain in place. 

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 14:52hrs on Thursday, 15 February to reports of a collision on the A406 in Barking.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended. At the scene a female pedestrian, aged 40, had been in collision with a car.

"The injured woman was taken by London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital where her condition is critical."

Police are now working to identify and contact the woman's next of kin.

The driver of the car involved in the crash stopped at the scene and police have confirmed they have made no arrests. 

Road users are advised to use alternative routes where possible whilst roads are still affected.
