A Dagenham teenager sang in a choir on a record for a charity that grants seriously ill youngsters their wishes.

Jonas Vaitekunas, 15, who was born with Downs Syndrome and has since been diagnosed with leukaemia, performs with the Sunshine Choir for budding young singers with serious life conditions.

He joined the choir to record the Rainbow single for the Finchley-based Rays of Sunshine charity at Universal Music studio in St Pancras.

The song was written collectively by the choir with help from music producer Silvastone.

“It was cool to sing with my friends and fun going on trips performing,” Jonas said.

The lyrics reflect the choir's experiences with their illnesses.

Rays of Sunshine’s Jenny Porter said: “Everyone shared their own story in the lyrics. Rainbow is a catchy song with a message that will brighten everyone’s day when they hear it.”

The choir helps them reduce their isolation by giving those living with serious illness the chance to get together for their love of music.

Jonas was introduced to the charity in 2022, after his leukaemia diagnosis, and was granted his wish to visit Disneyland in Paris.
