A Dagenham pub has officially reopened following a refurbishment which cost more than £300,000.

The Pipe Major, in Yewtree Avenue, reopened on Saturday (June 21) following a £309,000 transformation, which took just less than a month to complete.

The pub, owned by Marston’s, now has a "fresh new look" and "upgraded features".

The community heroes chosen to pull the first pint were Adrian Sinclair, a long-serving scout leader and Esther Killington, a member of the Dagenham Girl Pipers, the world’s first all-female pipe band founded in 1930.

They were joined by fellow Dagenham Girl Pipers Christine Smith, Carol Barnes, Merilyn Dorrington, and Donna Dorrington.

The venue now has two areas, a "lively, sport-loving" bar and a "cosy, family-focused" lounge, which are divided by a central partition.

Food and drinks menus at the pub remain the same following the refurbishment, while 4k screens throughout now show TNT and Sky Sports.

Pub general manager Hayden Leavers said: "We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome guests back through the doors.

"The response so far has been amazing, people love the new look, and we’ve already seen the space in full swing with quiz nights, sport screenings, and plenty of friendly faces back at the bar."

Family-friendly entertainment is already underway with weekend fun days, the return of Sunday quizzes, and ongoing support for causes in the area.
