Vikki Rivers, who arrived early with her son Jack, said: "We are so excited.

"We got here early.

"We have been to the Trooping of the Colours and he (The King) passed by.

"We’re both hoping that we might see meet them properly!"

Seventeen-year-old Kayden Vukowski travelled across the city to show his support for the King and Queen.

Mr Vukowski said: "I’m only 17 and I just really love the royal family.

"I have come down here today especially after all the backlash they have been getting with Andrew.

"I have come all the way from west London to show my support for them."

Among the first to arrive was Laura Skrzynski, who brought flowers for Queen Camilla.

Ms Skrzynski said: "I’m very much excited to see them.

"I have seen them a few times.

"My favourite one was his (King Charles III) mother, the late Queen.

"I loved his late grandmother too.

"I’m sure the late queen would want us to support.

"They have been getting so much bad press it is nice to show them support.

"They both work hard.

"He (The King) is very even-handed which is very professional.

"I respect that because we are all his subjects.

"For a lot of people this might be a once in a lifetime thing.

"It is wonderful.

"It is great community service."

Volunteer Megon Adams said: "It’s the first time I’m seeing them (The King and Queen) face to face.

"I’ve only seen them on TV but the opportunity to see them face to face is a dream.

"It is nice that they’re reaching out.

"It is really rewarding."

Before the crowds arrived, Barking Town Square was decorated with Union Jack bunting and prepared with railings in anticipation of the public turnout, despite the chilly morning air.
