Cyber security students at Barking & Dagenham College were given a glimpse into the world of work when Microsoft paid a visit.
The industry insight session, delivered by the tech giant, introduced learners to career opportunities in the cyber security sector, including roles in threat analysis, digital forensics, cloud security, and ethical hacking.
Students also received personalised feedback on their CVs from Microsoft professionals and learned about the skills and pathways valued by employers in this fast-growing industry.

Lily Jones, careers progression coach at the college, said: "Giving students direct access to employers like Microsoft is incredibly powerful. It helps them see what’s possible, understand the skills they’ll need and start shaping a clear pathway into the industry.
"Our students rose to the challenge brilliantly today, and it’s exactly these kinds of experiences that ensure they leave us work-ready and confident about their future."
The visit also gave many students their first opportunity to engage directly with a global employer and gain insight into real-world recruitment processes.
Zerin Sheak, a 17-year-old cyber security student, said: "It was amazing to hear directly from people working at Microsoft. I didn’t realise how many different jobs there are in cyber security.
"The session has given me a clearer idea of the path I want to take and made me even more excited about my future career."
Barking & Dagenham College regularly hosts employer talks, industry insight sessions, work placements, and skills-based events to ensure students gain practical experience alongside their studies.
The college thanked Microsoft for helping to support the next generation of cyber professionals. It said the tech giant’s involvement helped equip students with the knowledge and confidence to help them succeed.
Barking & Dagenham College offers technical and professional training from entry level to level 7, with qualifications including Apprenticeships, BTECs, HNDs, T-levels, and more.
The college is nationally recognised, holding a Matrix Award for Advice and Guidance, the Investors in People Gold Status, and the Tes Award for Best Teaching and Learning Initiative in 2018.
