A teacher at a Barking school has been shortlisted in a prestigious competition celebrating the UK’s most inspiring teachers and schools.
Annie Wright, head of computing at Barking Abbey School, is a finalist in the TES Schools Awards 2026 in the Subject Leader of the Year (Secondary) category.
The awards recognise excellence in education and celebrate outstanding teachers and schools across the UK. The awards ceremony will take place in central London on June 19.
Comedian and writer Katherine Ryan will host the ceremony at Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane. The event brings together finalists from state and independent schools in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

There are 23 award categories this year, covering areas such as leadership, teaching, pupil outcomes and wellbeing.
The TES Schools Awards have been running since 2009 and are known for honouring individuals and teams who make a lasting difference to pupils and their communities.
Amazon Web Services is sponsoring the 'Best Use of Technology' category. The shortlist was chosen by a panel of education professionals, including experienced school leaders.
The awards are designed to shine a light on the positive influence teachers and school staff have beyond the classroom.
Mr Williams said the record number of nominations this year reflected the growing impact of schools across the country.
