The project will be carried out in four phases, beginning on June 1 and expected to finish at the end of August.
A Barking and Dagenham Council spokesperson told this paper that improvement works will be carried out, delivering "new street lighting, wider, clutter-free pavements, new planters, a new shorter crossing point and dedicated cycle tracks on both sides of the road".
They added: "Many people have cited a lack of cycling provision and therefore perceived safety as a reason not to cycle.
"Providing infrastructure such as this gives more people the choice to cycle and frees up road space for those who chose not to.
"The work is being delivered by Be First, working on behalf of Barking and Dagenham Council."
This paper has seen a copy of a letter sent to a resident on May 20 by Saleem Patel, delivery planning manager at Be First, outlining the plans for Heathway.
It notes that "substantial consultation and engagement" has already taken place with residents and businesses about the changes they would like to see in Heathway.
It says that funding was received from the Levelling Up Fund that will allow the first stage of these works to take place.
According to the letter, contractors will "make every effort to minimise disruption" while the works are ongoing.
Phases one and two will be on the western side of the pavement and will run from June 1 to July 10.
The spokesperson said: "Phase one covers the section from Reede Road to the crossing outside the station.
"Phase two covers the section from the crossing at the station to Church Elm Lane.
"During this period, traffic will only be allowed to use Heathway in a northbound direction - diversions will be in place."
Phases three and four cover the eastern side of the pavement and will commence on July 13 and end on August 21.
Phase three will focus on the section from Hedgemans Road to the crossing at the station and phase four on the section from the crossing at the station at Parsloes Avenue.
During this period, traffic will only be allowed to flow in a northbound direction and diversions will be in place.
The spokesperson said: "Advance warning signage has been placed in various locations around the borough to inform drivers of the upcoming improvements.
"There will also be two full closures of Heathway between the two junctions to allow for road resurfacing to take place, with no traffic allowed.
"These will be on the weekend of Saturday, August 15 to Sunday, August 16 (2 days) and Saturday, August 22 to Sunday, August 23 (2 days)."
