Barking and Dagenham Carnival is set to return with a new theme and a full day of celebration.

This year’s event will take place on July 11 at Barking Park and will run from 1pm to 6.30pm.

The theme, ‘Birds of Paradise,’ was chosen by young people and adult participants in the area and celebrates creativity, wellbeing and cultural pride across the borough, inspired by colour, movement and expression.

A spokesperson said: "We invite residents, families, organisations and performers to take part or attend and enjoy the atmosphere."

Rooted in Caribbean carnival traditions, the event also incorporates British, European, and African influences, reflecting the diverse communities of Barking and Dagenham.

This year’s location in Barking Park offers more space for activities and performances. The programme will feature costume, dance, and visual arts.

The event will bring together schools, artists, community groups, and residents for a shared day of creativity and fun.

The carnival is supported by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Organisers are currently looking for volunteers to help deliver this year’s event. Anyone interested in volunteering or taking part is encouraged to email info@ukoncareers.com.
