ACTING legend Michael Caine has been shooting a crime movie in one of the borough's most notorious subways.

'Harry Brown' is one of two prolific crime and gangster flicks currently being shot in the borough.

Filming was taking place in and around the subway between East Road and Padnall Road, Chadwell Heath, from Wednesday last week until yesterday (Tuesday).

Award-winning Caine, 75, is playing an elderly former serviceman who lives in a run-down suburb rife with drugs and gang culture, alongside co-star Emily Mortimer.

When his friend gets stabbed by a mob in the subway, he decides to become a vigilante to exact revenge.

The Post was at the film set on Friday afternoon when Mr Caine was filming a scene in which he is on his way to visit his wife in hospital, but decides to take a detour to avoid having to go through the dangerous underpass.

The plot will seem familiar to residents, who met at Somerville Hall, Chadwell Heath last Thursday to discuss assaults and anti-social behaviour there in real life.

A few miles away, Danny Dyer has been filming a Sin City-style gangster action movie called 'Jack Said' on the Heathway Industrial Estate since January 26).

Based on a graphic novel by Piers Pereira, 'Jack Said' is the prequel to the 2008 film 'Jack Says' which starred Simon Phillips, Rula Lenska, and the late EastEnders actor, Mike Reid.

The soap opera star died shortly after the filming in 2007.

Danny Dyer said: "I'm a big fan of Mike Reid.

"It's all really about carrying on his legacy, and it's a rare opportunity to be in something like this movie." Set in London and Amsterdam, the film tells the story of undercover policeman, Jack (Simon Phillips), who is trying to infiltrate a big crime syndicate.

Gangster, Nathan (Dyer) develops a strong bond with Jack but gets himself into a lot of trouble in the process.

Director, Toby Meredith has praised the actors and the film crew he is working alongside.

He said: "Danny is fantastic to work with. He's a big name British actor.

"There is a certain appeal to the British gangster film, and everybody in Dagenham has been really accommodating."

The production of the movie is set to be completed by April, and released by the end of the year.
