Female construction apprentices have called on women to shun stereotypes and train up for a future in the industry.
On Monday, July 25, women training at Barking and Dagenham College’s Rush Green campus in Dagenham Road, Dagenham, encouraged female enrolment after completing their redecoration of Lewisham Academy.
Carrieanne Crosfield, a 17-year-old training at the college, said being employed as an apprentice by Aspire offered life-changing opportunities for women in plumbing, plastering and carpentry.
“The Aspire project has changed my life and got me on to a great career path,” she said. “We’ve also had the opportunity to work on really interesting projects including film sets and Lewisham Academy.”
Apprenticeships are also available in painting and decorating as is electrical training.
