A CONTROVERSIAL first-half penalty from Mark Arber saw Dagenham & Redbridge end a run of four straight defeats on Saturday.

Arber struck in the 39th minute after referee Oliver Langford adjudged Cherries striker Steve Fletcher had pulled back Peter Gain in the area.

The goal was Daggers first for over six and half hours too, and they should have added to their tally in the second half but found visiting keeper Shwan Jalal in inspired form.

Josh Scott was denied by three superb saves, while both Peter Gain and Graeme Montgomery, making his first ever league start, also shot wide of the target and Paul Benson smashed a shot against the crossbar.

Daggers: Tony Roberts, Abu Ogogo, Damien McCrory, Scott Doe, Mark Arber, Danny Green (Jon Nurse 84), Marlon Pack, Peter Gain, Graeme Montgomery, Paul Benson, Josh Scott.

Subs not used: Chris Lewington, Danny Spiller, Romain Vincelot, Phil Walsh, Tommy Tejan-Sie, Darren Currie.

Attendance: 2,215 (inc 743 away).
