THEIR faces smiling, their dresses elegant, they stand in front of a hired bus and pose for a picture- but why?

The POST is trying to unravel the mystery behind this photo that was handed in at our Whalebone Lane South office earlier this week.

Barbara Kelly, who has had the image in her possession for around 10 years, gave the photo to us in the hope that the some of the well-dressed ladies would come forward and reveal what was taking place.

Mrs Kelly said: "This is a photo of staff that used to work at the Eveready Battery factory on the corner of Rainham Road South and Oxlow Lane.

"I don't know when the photo was taken but I borrowed it from the woman on the right wearing the black-rimmed glasses around 10 years ago.

"I found it again recently and tried to give it back but I could not trace the lady.

"I thought that one of yourt readers might recognise the photo."

Do you recognise yourself or anyone else in this picture?

Do you know what event was taking place or where the photo was taken? If so contact reporter Richard Meade on (020) 8709 0017.
