DAWN raids lead to the arrest of another Dagenham man in connection with a string of armed robberies across Essex.

Leonard Smith, 50, was arrested on Thursday May 15, and appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court charged with nine counts of conspiracy to rob on Monday.

His brother, Terry Smith, 49, of Canvey Island was charged with the same crimes at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Liza Smith, 34, of Gale Close, Dagenham, who is no relation to the two men, was also charged with the same nine offences at the same hearing.

Brian Wall, 61, of Elstow Road, Dagenham, was charged with attempted murder in relation to the robberies after a commuter was shot in the chest, as well as nine counts of conspiracy to rob.

Adam Mapleson, 25, was seriously hurt when he tried to stop robbers attacking a female security guard loading a cash machine outside Rayleigh rail station, Essex, on May 25 last year.

Wall and Terry and Liza Smith were all remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on August 4.
