THREE Ilford AC runners took to the roads of Kent last Sunday to compete in the Sidcup 10-mile road race.

On a fast course, Terry Knightley produced one of his best times for a few years to finish in an excellent 58 minutes 39 seconds, which saw him finish third amongst the veterans and in 20th place overall.

Kevin Newell was hot on his heels with another good showing of 60.29, which placed him 35th. Carol Muir completed the Ilford trio with 1:45.34, as she prepares for the London Marathon.

Paul Martelletti of Victoria Park was the victor in 49.15 with Newham's Dave Mitchinson second in 51.17 and Paul Molyneux of Springfield third in 51.25.

The women's course record fell to Helen Decker of Ipswich Jaffa with a 56.00 clocking.
