A DEVOTED volunteer was honoured for his work at a prestigious ceremony last week.

St John Ambulance member Noel Hanrahan, 34, was granted membership of the of the St John Order for 24 years of exceptional to the organisation.

Each investiture for Royal Order of Chivalry is approved by Her Majesty the Queen.

The ceremony was held in the Grand Priory Church in Clerkenwell, London, where he was presented with the Order's insignia by Sir Brian Jenkins, Prior of the Priory of England and the Islands.

Noel joined the service as a ten-year-old in his homeland, Ireland, before founding its first division in Peru, South America, ten years ago.

The self-employed electronic engineer has since returned to the UK and has become member-in-charge of the first aid organisation's Barking and Dagenham Division.
