Barclays bank has spruced up to bring a touch of modernity and the latest technology to its customers.

Six talking cash points for the blind or partially sighted, cash and cheque deposit machines, statement machines and quick pay points now greet account holders following an extensive refurbishment.

The bank, on Ripple Road, Barking, was officially opened by company chiefs on Friday and saw a surprising number of football fans attend to get their picture with the Barclays Premier League Trophy, which was on display in the branch.

Barking MP, Margaret Hodge, said: “It is great to see Barclays investing in Barking with a new modern branch that has all the latest technology.

“I hope that this will attract further investment in the local community.”

Oli Taal, retail area director at Barclays, said: “The new design of our Barking branch offers our customers and staff a more modern environment and the latest innovative technology to enable our customers to bank with us in a way that suits them and in surroundings that are comfortable and accessible for all.”

Money was also raised for Saint Francis Hospice during the open day.
