Barking Abbey pupils were full of Christmas spirit as they held a tinsel and turkey event for the borough's older residents.

Visitors to the Sandringham Road, Barking school listened to carol singing from the pupils before tucking into a Christmas dinner.

And they didn’t leave Thursday’s event empty-handed, either, as all guests were given a gift of a goody bag containing a keyring, calendar, diary and a selection of sweet treats.

The school’s assistant special educational needs co-ordinator, Lauren Casey, said: “The day went really well – huge thanks to Asda and Bidfood for sponsoring the event.

“The local senior citizens commented on how well behaved, helpful and mature the pupils were – everyone left with a big smile on their face.

“I’m very proud of the pupils as they really showcased the ethics of the school in such a great light.”
