A national arts scheme has shortlisted council leader Cllr Darren Rodwell for its Arts Champion award.

Winners of the Hearts for the Arts Awards will be announced every day from February 11 to 14 as part of a drive to recognise councils’ contribution to art provision.

On Monday last week Cllr Rodwell was shortlisted in the Best Local Authority Arts Champion category, which he said reflected the borough’s “growing reputation among the creative community”, adding Barking and Dagenham was “on track to be one of the capital’s cultural powerhouses”.
