Barking and Dagenham has been given another ‘award’ that the council won’t be in too much haste to promote.

The borough was listed in the top 10 worst places to live in England in 2013.

Launched by website chavtowns.co.uk, the list has no statistical evidence to back it and is merely based on the volume of comments on its website about towns around the country.

An anonymous person wrote on the site: “If chav heaven is in Romford, then Dagenham is the gateway between heaven and hell.”

Also included in the list are Hull at number one, along with Gravesend, Croydon, and Hackney.

Last month we reported how Dagenham had been included on the long-list for the second edition of Crap Towns: The 50 Worst Places to Live in the UK.

The Crap Town publishers are encouraging people to have their say on the website - craptownsreturns.com - where people can defend (or support) the inclusion of their town in the book.
