Primary school pupils in the borough have achieved Sats results that are better than the national average.
The latest Key Stage 2 results show ten to 11 year-olds in Barking and Dagenham are more able than their peers across the country in most subjects.
Pupils particularly excelled in maths, where they were six per cent above the national average of 70 per cent, and in grammar, punctuation and spelling where they were five per cent above the national average of 72pc.
However they were two percentage points below the national average of 63.9pc for reading.
Cllr Evelyn Carpenter, cabinet member for educational attainment and school improvement, said: “This is a fantastic set of results and I would like to say a big well done to the pupils and teachers too.
“This shows Barking and Dagenham has some of the brightest pupils in the country.”
