William Bellamy Primary School marked the borough’s 50th anniversary by inviting mayor Simon Bremner to a dance festival – along with nine other schools.

The event, which was held on Thursday, featured pupils performing dances inspired by music scenes from 1965 onwards.

Cllr Bremner said he had a great time watching Five Elms Primary School pupils perform 80’s Footloose, Marks Gate’s Street Dance and George Carey Church of England Primary School’s Jailhouse Rock.

The school’s events coordinator, Ranjit Singh, said the event was a fantastic celebration of historic music.

“All the performances were fantastic,” he said. “The children had a great morning and all the schools received a trophy.”
