Pupils took a break from class to battle it out in the increasingly popular sport of bike polo.

Students from Sydney Russell, Jo Richardson and All Saints secondary schools took part in the Fairlop Oak Power League tournament in Hainault on June 27.

The tournament saw 16 schools from east and north east London compete for the top spot.

Sydney Russell, who made their debut this year, came a respectable third, while All Saints and Jo Richardson, made it to the quarter finals.

Bike Polo, which is similar to horse polo but with bicycles instead of ponies, featured as a demonstration sport at the 1908 London Olympic Games and is now rapidly spreading as a popular urban sport.
